I'm not sure what happened today, but all of a sudden my blog started working again.
It has been down for months.
I'm sure all of you missed my rants, and there were some good ones that I would have loved to share since October.
Not too much has happened lately. I've applied to grad school, finally, but don't know yet if I've gotten in anywhere. Let's hope I get in somewhere; I am in need of a change.
Other than that it is just the same old thing. Still nannying for the same boys. They got to play at Madison Square Garden tonight during the Rangers Game. That was pretty cool. It was my first pro hockey game. Rangers lost, but we all had a great time. The boys are still on cloud nine. I can't say that I blame them. Skating at the Garden is pretty damn amazing.
Well it is off to bed for now, but I promise to keep you all updated on my crazy life in NYC.

For anyone who is applying for jobs right now a word to the wise. Reference this cover letter in the WHAT NOT TO DO catagory. It upsets me to think that someone who writes this way already has a job, yet s/he is applying for another job behind him/her employers back. How can this be. There are so many of us looking for work, especially in the NYC art market and here s/he is... already having one job...applying for another. Met, I hope you have better sense than to hire someone who can't form a cohernt sentence.
So for all those seeking employment... Read with caution. If your cover letter looks like this, change it and change it fast.

Hamptons, Hamptons, Hamptons...

This has been quite a busy summer. From DeBordiue to the Hamptons, I have been on the go. I signed on a new apartment earlier this month...thank God that is taken care of. I wasn't sure I would be able to get everything done between Jitney trips back in forth from the City. Luckily all is taken care of. When I take some pics of the new place I'll upload them for all to see.
Well I'm off again, hope everyone is well. and I'll write again soon.

Summer in DeBordieu

So I am now in South Carolina.
It is taking some getting used too. I had to resort to eating fast food tonight, when what I really wanted was sushi. There is no sushi restaurant near Georgetown, SC. At least not one I could find.

On a positive note, The house is amazing... I have been able to spend to nights here by my self. That has been quite nice. I really needed a break from everything. And I got it just in time.

I hope all is well with everyone and I look forward to seeing some of my Charleston buds this summer.

This is the funniest thing I have ever seen on Broadway. The musical is just the movie put to song, but it really is wonderful. If you're ever in NY and want to see a funny show I suggest this one.

STEPHEN LYNCH plays Robbie Hart. He is phenomenal, great voice and very funny.

Mom's Visit

Two weeks ago my mom came to NYC for a visit. It was so nice to have her here. We had a great time. Shopping, Eating and of course Broadway Shows. My mom dragged me to see Menopause The Musical. I really did not want to go. Especially since she made me wait in line at the Ticket Booth in Time Square for over an hour. (ps this is the an off-Broadway show and the theatre is a block from my house.) BUT I was surprised. The show was great. We had an absolute blast.

The next night Mom, Glynnis and I saw Lestat. Now we really were excited about this show. We shouldn't have been. It was funny, but it wasn't supposed to be. It won't last too long.

On the whole, It was a great trip. I really missed my mom and it was great to have her here.

Tuesday I had the privilege of doing safety Patrol. Now safety patrol is a good idea. However, walking down Madison Ave wearing a bright orange safety vest with a metallic reflector strip is not my idea of a great time. There is nothing like walking by Chanel and Hermes in orange and silver plastic.

Oh! And next week I get to do this all over again. So if you happen to be on Madison Ave next week and see me in my bright orange vest. Please, don't laugh too much. (I know it will be hard not to)

Night at the Opera

Last night my wonderful boss and friend, gave me the night off AND her ticket to the Opera. So I got to see Romeo and Juliet at the Metropolitan Opera House. Excellent seats. I was in the orchestra, ten rows from the stage. It was amazing. I have never been to the opera before, and I must say I loved every minute. Imagine, the night off and a $250 ticket to the opera. It doesn't get much better than that.

My Two Cents on Google in China

For those of you who don't know, Google has agreed to censor material about human rights, Tibet and other sensitive topics to Beijing, such as the Dalai Lama, in China. I am appalled by this. To think that Google would agree to censor material in China, adhering to their laws about free speech, or lack there of, sickens me. From this point on Glynnis and I will no longer be using Google. This will be hard for me and many others who rely on Google as a search engine.
"When a search engine collaborates with the government like this, it makes it much easier for the Chinese government to control what is being said on the Internet," said Julien Pain, Reporters without Boarders.
Not to single Google out, Yahoo and MSN also have restricted, "Chinese friendly" versions of their search engines. This leaves me wondering, how can I search the internet without using a search engine that adheres to the Chinese government's intolerableable regime on free speech.

If you care anything about the rights of the Chinese people, DO NOT support such sites.

Today I lost my Cell Phone...

So, today I left my cell phone in the back of a NYC taxi cab. Yeah. Luckily a nice lady, with a very manly voice, named Vicky picked it up and I was able to get it back. How lucky am I. She just happened to live on 85th and York. Which is only seven blocks from me on 92nd and 1st.

Before I found out Vicky had my phone, my mother's response to this whole thing was to call every taxi company in New York City and see if they had a phone turned in. Yeah. Okay. Like that would really work. She assumed that since taxi drivers keep logs, that the dispatch would be able to find out which cab picked me up from Chelsea Piers today and then went up to 91st and Park, before heading to the Wickham's over on Lex and 72nd. I have to love her for trying, but really that would be like trying to find a needle in a hay stack.

Thanksgiving in the Hamptons

I spent this weekend in the Hamptons with the Wickham Family. This is their house in Quogue, NY... between South and West Hampton. The weekend was a lot of fun. I had to work, but is playing football and going to the beach really work?

On Saturday, John (dad), Daddy J (grandfather), Ashby, and I went wine tasting in North Fork. It was fun to see Long Island. I would love to spend more time there.

Oh and Charlotte told me the house was small. Does this look small? No. I got lost. And she said that my car was an old, dirty, Suburban. Well to me this isn't an old, dirty truck. To me this is a very nice Suburban. It just goes to show that they live in a slightly different world than I do. But hey, I get to visit. And Visiting is nice.

The funniest part would have to have been the people around us. Heidi and I arrived at the parade around 7:30. We had a great spot on the corner of 57th and Broadway. The people in front of us had been there since 5 am. They were crazy. A group of people from New Hampshire, lead by the infamous Pastor Jeff, who yelled at the Hawaiian marching band, “hey, I want to get leied!” They have been coming to the parade for 10 years, same corner. They even brought homemade sugar and oatmeal cookies with them. One offered cookies to Carrie Underwood as she went by on her float. These people became best friends with a group from Florida. They were sharing hats, passing gloves back and forth. It was hilarious. You would have thought they had been friends for years. I must say at times they were obnoxious, but they did make the parade entertaining.

Now some of you might realize that I cannot become an aunt because I have no brothers or sisters.... Well you would be wrong.
It is kind of complicated, but I will try to explain.
Betsy and Kevin Kalman are my adopted parents in Charleston. Took care of their son Bobby(aka the love of my life) last year. Bobby has an older brother Alex. Alex is married to Tiff, who had James Richard Holdgate this morning.
So now you can see that today I became an aunt (unofficially).

Becca, Tracy and our trip to China Town

Becca and Tracy came to New York to visit Glynnis and me this weekend. We had so much fun, eating, drinking, exploring the city.
So on Saturday we decided to go to China Town. Now, China Town is a wonderful place. However, we were there late in the day and all the vendors were a little anxious. Becca and Tracy wanted to visit the "back rooms" to purchase a nice knock off. At the first shop we go into the back and start looking around. Everyone was trying to decided what they wanted to purchase. So the guy keeps asking us, "What you look for?, Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Chanel." Our response was we are just looking. (meaning we are not sure what we want to buy, but we are going to buy something) Well, He took it to mean that we had no intention of buying anything and kicked us out. It was really quite funny. He told us to leave and then called us lazy. It doesn't sound so funny now, but if you could just imagine the four of us getting kicked out of a back room in China Town, then I think you might laugh.

One thing I love about living in New York is I can relax in my apartment, sipping a glass of wine at 12:30 am and order my groceries. It's fabulous. How can it get any better. I just go online and the next day I have my groceries. Or I can set a date to have them delivered. I mean, who ever thought of this is a genius. Genius.

Harry Potter Premiere

Today is the US Premiere of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.
Therefore, Glynnis, Marie and I went down to the Ziegfeld Theatre and watched the "stars" as they went inside. We saw them all. The place was crazy. 1000s of 16 year old girls from the tri state area were packed onto the sidewalk across from the theatre.
In an attempt to see people better, we tried to stay in the Wachovia ATM beside the theatre. Aka... We had the WORLD'S LONGEST TRANSACTION. After about 20 mins the police caught on and we were asked to leave the ATM. Marie's last words were, "This is our bank damn it, they can't make us leave." Unfortunately, they did make us leave. Oh well, we still had a damn good time.
Glynnis had a final thought to add … NYC cops, you know what kind of people you are, your bastard people, bastard people… I’m gonna go home and bite my pillow. (that says it all)

Picture it. New York: Nov 12, 2005 The Harry Potter Premiere

It’s in the high 50s outside, sweater weather/light jacket. Not terribly cold. And then comes Ralph Fiennes wearing a mammoth scarf. Like he’s going to pull up some turnips in Siberia type of scarf. What a Douche.
I mean of course he weighs about 80 lbs, 20 being his noise, so maybe he needs to stay a little warm. But, the thing is, he wore it for all the photo ops inside the theatre as well. Like these photos where he’s trying to eat Harry’s head.

So here’s to you Ralph Fiennes. God knows we wouldn’t want that precious, shriveled, skinny little neck of yours to feel any of the cold NYC air. Amen

New York City Marathon

This is the view from my kitchen window Sunday afternoon. There go the marathon runners down 1st ave. While being woken up by bad music this morning sucked, it was worth it to have such a great view of the runners. Here they are running through Spanish Harlem to Harlem and then the Bronx. They are aprox. half way through the run here.

So today is the New York City Marathon. All of 1st Ave is blocked, which means I really can't leave my apartment. Oh well, I guess that means I can stay in bed all day. The only issue is Glynnis and I woke up this morning to U2 blaring from the street below. Glynnis can't stand U2 so that made for an interesting wake up call. After that the music got worse and we can't get away from it. This sucks! or as Glynnis so eloquently put it, "So this is Hell."

Besides the bad music filling our apartment, I don't think today is going to be bad. It is so foggy outside that all we can see is grey. Not the best weather for the runners, at least it isn't hot. Well that is all for now. Not to much going on here.

So, I recently moved to New York City. Probably the biggest, craziest step I have made in life, to date. But, def. worth it. I absolutely love this city. I have never been happier. New York is such a wonderful place to live. And there are seasons in NY. I haven't had seasons since I moved to Charleston. I forgot how nice autumn is. Every day I walk through the city to work, taking a different path as I go.
I really love being a Nanny in NYC. I get to be a kid, but also an adult. I meet all kinds of people, who matter in NY. Every one knows some one famous. I work for a great family. I am "in charge" of three boys. Edward and John are 9 (twins) and Ashby is 8. They are so much fun. (but I still miss Bobby and the Kalman family... they can't be replaced)

That is about it for me... I will try to update often (yet I can't make any promises)
